About This Practitioner

Sabrina Tropper, therapist and founder of Counseling Works NYC, is a licensed psychotherapist with a Masters' in Mental Health Counseling (LMHC). She is trained in a trauma-focused therapy called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) and has a background working in child welfare with families from diverse cultural backgrounds and sexual orientations.

Sabrina’s approach is holistic and trauma-informed. She believes that good mental health is not solely limited to your mind but involves everything from your personal history, cultural background to physical health and beyond. She integrates EMDR and mindfulness-based techniques to provide treatment that is highly individualized, as she does not subscribe to a one-size-fits all therapy. Her approach is warm and compassionate, while also being an active participant toward change.

Specialties: early relational trauma (often referred to as Complex PTSD), dysfunctional/toxic relationships, anxiety disorders, career challenges, and ADHD. She also has experience working with tweens (ages 12 to 14) and adolescents.

A little bit about her: Sabrina was raised in Montreal, Canada, and in a past life she played saxophone in bands for a living while studying jazz. She now enjoys all kinds of music, fine arts, crafty things, and has an interest in social justice and feminism.
